Smile- You're Getting Married!

My first day as a sales associate at A Trace of Lace Bridal Boutique was a lot like what I imagine planning  wedding to be; exciting, busy, a bit stressful and utterly hopeful.  We opened at 11- as we do every Sunday and shortly we were swamped with brides to be, supportive bridesmaids, nervous brides taking their altered dresses home and three staff making sure that the exciting step in the engagement process of choosing a bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses is as fun as experience as it should be.

Some brides are nervous.  The dress comes on and in the three way mirror- up on pedestals, they see not only their beautiful selves but the future that is one ceremony away.  Some brides are so excited at the thought of trying on such stunning gowns, with family and friends by their side, basking in the glory that is the engagement.  Other brides are uncomfortable, not used to the attention on them.  Not thrilled with their appearances- even in the dress of their dreams.  These are the brides that I am focusing on in today's post.

These are the brides that are forgetting that the reason they are at A Trace of Lace is because someone thinks the world of them.  Their fiance's chose them and no one else.  Their fiance's think that they are beautiful and wonderful.  The love of their lives thinks that they are worthy of the dress of their dreams and I, as the newest staff member of A Trace of Lace think that they are beautiful and worthy as well.  I think that they should open the curtain to their dressing rooms and step on to that pedestal, standing tall.  They should look into the three way mirror and see the beautiful woman and soon to be bride that their fiance's see every day!

Behind the Seams - Day 1

What does a thirty year old unmarried woman with a sick obsession with the sanctity of marriage do to feed into her addictions? No, not give my unsuspecting boyfriend an ultimatum. Not make Fox news by marrying myself. Not lower my standards and marry any Tom, Dick or Harry that wants to sleep with me. No, not this gal. This gal gets a part time job at a Bridal Boutique!

Starting on Sunday, September 11th I will be working part time at A Trace of Lace Bridal Shop on Woodstock Ave in Rutland, VT. The first time I entered the store the heavens opened up. I heard birds chirping and had a sudden urge try on a dress and sing Disney Princess songs.

The white carpets are soft and welcoming to my feet. The boutique smells of baby’s breath and commitment. I feel like an abandoned child who stumbles upon a warm, welcoming cottage in the woods. I feel…at home. The silk, the lace, the beading- it is too stimulating and I suddenly can’t breathe. When the friendly face asks if I am here to try on a dress- I slump a little. The warm cottage disappears and the heavens once again close. Embarrassed as to why I am actually here, to feed into an addiction, I spit out the only thing I can come up with on the spot… “Um, Are you hiring?”

Stay tuned for adventures Behind the Seams at A Trace of Lace, Bridal Boutique- located next to Hannoush Jewelers on Woodstock Ave. I will be updating the blog regularly – photos included. That is until I get fired for trying on all the dresses.
